New SACRE members wanted

This is an important time for religious education. The Religious Education Council of England and Wales (REC) has set up a Commission on RE that may end in changes to the law on RE. Should the curriculum be set nationally or locally? What could be done to raise the status of the subject? Is it right that parents can withdraw their children from RE? What policy changes would improve recruitment, ITT and CPD?

SACRE currently has VACANCIES for members representing some teachers’ associations and some local religious communities. This could be a good time for YOU to join us in the RE cause! You don’t have to be an expert, or a teacher in a local authority school (academies also welcome). The commitment is to three (two hour) meetings a year, usually held in the evenings at Bath Spa University.

In particular, we have vacancies for the following groups/associations:

Free Churches
Salvation Army
Sikh Community
ATL (Primary or Secondary)
NUT (Primary)
Primary Headteachers
Secondary Headteachers

Even if you don’t belong to one of these groups, perhaps you could recommend someone who is (ask them first!), or would like to join in the future if a vacancy becomes available.
